Academic Standards

Description

The Academic Standards Committee defines the minimum acceptable academic performance. The faculty review the studentsí academic performance each semester, and the Academic Standards Committee determines whether students are allowed to continue at The Cooper Union or are asked to withdraw when failing to meet these standards. The Academic Standards Committee is also involved in cases involving academic dishonesty.

Admissions

Description

The Admissions Committee sets and reviews the policies concerning admissions and recruitment.

Alumni

Description

The Alumni Committee determines qualifications for admissions.

Book Fair

Description

These students are in charge of preparing for the semesterly ESC Book Fair.

Campus Security

Description

New York State requires the election of students to serve on a campus wide security committee to enforce state law. The mandate for the committee is: The committee shall review current campus security policies and procedures and make recommendations for their improvement.

Curriculum

Description

Each of the four faculties (Art, Architecture, Engineering, and HSS) has a curriculum committee that decides whether to add or eliminate courses and to expand the curriculum, and determines which courses are required, and which are optional.

Faculty Student Senate

Description

The Faculty Student Senate serves as an advisory committee for the President. It provides a touchpoint for faculty and students from Art, Architecture, Engineering, and HSS to discuss updates and issues that the members deem necessary, and pass resolutions accordingly.

FUN!

Description

ESC hosts a number of social events each year, and the FUN! Committee is in charge of organizing and advertising them.

HSS Curriculum

Description

The HSS curriculum committee reviews the current standing of the HSS and Library departments, as well as the Writing Center, and makes decisions regarding the goals of HSS, which include, but are not limited to: diversity, reviewing of current HSS courses, especially the required sequence, and introducing new courses.

Humanities Faculty

Description

Similiar to the Curriculum Committee but is specific to the School of Humanities.

Joint Activities

Description

The JAC determines funding for recognized clubs and also has disciplinary power over clubs. Each school elects three representatives and one alternate.

Judicial

Description

The Judicial Committee meets to hear complaints filed under the Cooper Union Code of Fair Practice and to adjudicate these complaints. Each representative has their own alternate so that the proper balance of class years is maintained on the hearing panel; representatives must pass materials directly to the alternate if the representative cannot attend a hearing. Each school elects two representatives and two alternates.

Judicial Appeals

Description

A Judicial Appeal Committee, consisting of one dean and two students, is formed when a student files a timely appeal of a decision of the Judicial Committee. The members of the Judicial Appeals Committee are necessarily different from those on the Judicial Committee, to ensure maximum impartiality.

Library

Description

The library committee serves as an advisory board to the head librarian. Two representatives and one alternate are elected from each school.

Treasurer

Description

The treasurer is selected each year to be responsible for the ESC budget - keeping track of what is available, and what it is used for.
